In the hands of a master, the short poem is beguiling on two levels. First, we are astonished by what it reveals; then, in subsequent readings, we begin to wonder how. But the answer is elusive. Emerson said, "Every word was once a poem." In Another Song I Know, William Michaelian treats words as the gems they really are. The result is clear: sixty-four very short poems that linger in the mind, and that seem to glow on the page.

open quoteAnother Song I Know is a delightful collection of brief, resilient poems. Reading them, one by one by one, is like taking a walk through our common everyday world and suddenly hearing what the poet hears: the leaves, a coffee cup, chairs—and yes, even people, singing their songs of wisdom, sweetness, and light. end quote

—Tom Koontz, Editor, Barnwood poetry magazine

William Michaelian

About the author
Outside the world of poetry, William Michaelian is best known for his novel, A Listening Thing, which has thrived online since its would-be publisher filed for bankruptcy, leaving a trail of review copies that have sold individually for as high as several hundred dollars. He is also the author of three story collections: the indispensible small press chapbook Among the Living and Other Stories (Musclehead Press, 2000); an online collection titled Early Short Stories; and the landmark No Time to Cut My Hair, a collection of seventy stories that resulted from a self-imposed ninety-day public writing adventure. His other work includes One Hand Clapping, a daily online journal in two volumes (2003-2005); Songs and Letters, an autobiographical book of poetry and prose that is still growing and presently in its thirteenth volume; The Old Language (Tigran Mets, 2005), a collection of work translated into Armenian and published in Yerevan, Armenia; and numerous columns, essays, and reviews. Michaelian's stories, poems, and drawings have also appeared in many literary magazines and newspapers. His unconventional artwork has captured a growing audience, and is used widely online. Updated daily, his website, williammichaelian.com, is one of the largest, most frequently visited author sites in the world.
